I get asked this question a lot. Like EVERYDAY!
I get it, you are bombarded with the latest ‘science’ on fat loss daily,
“Do this to reduce belly fat”
“Eat these foods for extreme fat loss”
You are so confused right.
So let me unconfuse your mind and explain what the best fat loss exercise is
in there world ever!
LET"S BE HONEST WITH EACH OTHER
Deep down you know this to be true.
All Mammals which we are lose fat stores when we have less for to eat.
Despite the appearance of detox teas and magic fat loss pills you know it’s just a method to achieving
a calorie deficit.
NOW FOR SOME SCIENCE
Your body is an amazing machine using fuel from food to keep you alive and functioning.
Let’s Break it down
Your energy use is broken down into 2 parts.
Your BMR (Basal Metabolic Rate) which is the energy you need to keep you alive and breathing.
Your TDEE (Total Daily Energy Expenditure) which the energy you need to perform your daily tasks on top of you BMR. This includes exercise and daily movement.
Calories are just another name for energy from food.
So if you take in less energy than you need for your TDEE then your body has to go somewhere for energy t make up lack of the energy coming in.
Your fat stores.
Do this consistency enough and you keep losing fat.
So what was the best exercise Greg?
Well here’s what you need to know first. Your body will use fuel to satisfy
its needs so when you focus on just losing weight your might be consuming
muscle as well as fat.
Fat loss is a different animal.
I want you focus on keeping your muscle, for many reasons.
Fat loss = losing fat + Keeping Muscle
Weight loss= Losing fat and muscle
See the difference?
The best exercise is pretty much anything that gets you doing some form of resistance training.
Weight training and body weight training are all great forms of exercises to help retain muscle.
Ultimately though for most of you just find an exercise you can do and stick to it.
A quick word on Cardio
Cardio is awesome, So do it.
It doesn’t have to be the centre piece of your training program.
I do it.
However for most of my clients it’s not the biggest part of their training.
Cardio is not necessary for fat loss. However for overall health include some in your week.
